Following hot on the heels of the release of three new character posters and two new TV spots for director Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel Studios has released a set of new still images from its newest comic book movie adaptation. Once again, CineMarcado, the Brazilian movie site that revealed the new character posters, is the first to get their hands on the new still images and post them online. The set contains better quality versions of some images that have previously appeared in magazines, like the shot of James Barnes (Sebastian Stan) sporting a very non-standard issue jacket for a U.S. soldier (his “Bucky” costume, perhaps?), and never-before-seen stills like the image showing Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci), the man responsible for creating the process that turned Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) into Captain America, about to lose his life to the Nazi assassin Heinz Kruger (Richard Armitage).

Additionally, accomplished storyboard artist Martin Asbury, whose credits include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Casino Royale, Troy, Batman Begins, and many more, recently posted online several pages of storyboard art that he did for Captain America: The First Avenger, which were taken down almost immediately thereafter. Many of the entertainment sites that got a jump on the release have subsequently taken down their re-posted images, as well, with messages stating that they were removed at the request of Paramount Pictures.

The sequences that Asbury posted appear to show the climactic final battle between Captain America and the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) on a massive stealth bomber. The two battle to control the Cosmic Cube, an object with the power to alter reality. It is the Cosmic Cube that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) shows to Erik Selvig (Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd) in the end-of-credits scene in Thor and which will seemingly play an important role in next summer’s The Avengers. The storyboard art seem to show the Cosmic Cube erupting, revealing images of the Nine Realms that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) explained to Jane Foster (Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman) in Thor, and then there is a huge explosion. Based on the sequence, this could be an adaptation of the fateful drone plane explosion from the comic books that ended with Bucky seemingly killed and Cap dropping into the Atlantic Ocean, where he became frozen in suspended animation until The Avengers thawed him out decades later.

Captain America: The First Avenger was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and is based on the classic superhero created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby that first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). The cast includes Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark.
